Aim of the Forum:
International Joint Forum on Infectious Diseases, to be held in coming September in Bangkok, aims to create the platform for the information exchange on infectious diseases in Asian countries. Majority of the participants will be scientists from Research Centers involved in the Program of Founding Research Centers for Emerging and Reemerging Infectious Diseases (*see below) and National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Japan. They will present their recent activities and accomplishments to exchange the information. In addition, we will invite scientists from several outstanding organizations such as WHO, CDC, and Pasteur, which have been working for many years in the field of infectious diseases in Asian countries, to share their experience and to seek for possible future research collaboration and network formation among the scientists working in Asia.
*The Program of Founding Research Centers for Emerging and Reemerging Infectious Diseases was launched in 2005 by support of the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to establish research centers at overseas institutions in countries at high risk of emerging infections. The research initiatives aim to contribute to the measures against infectious diseases in Japan and partner countries as well as at the global level with several common objectives including (1) better understanding of infectious diseases, (2) technologic innovation in diagnosis, therapy and prevention, and (3) training personnel with expertise in infectious diseases.
